Description/Job Summary

The Learning Advisor and Trainer role designs, plans, and implements comprehensive professional development and employee training programs to align with the strategic objectives of the organization. This position collaborates with department heads, subject matter experts (SMEs), team leaders, and the VPOD to create and maintain learning programs. This person ensures consistent delivery of employee training that supports an employee's growth in their position and preparation for future roles. The Learning Advisor and Trainer plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the association which includes basic skills and abilities to facilitate and train programs relates to employee development. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for employee development, excellent communication skills, and a strategic mindset to drive organizational learning initiatives.

Responsibilities/Duties

Training and Delivery

The Learning Advisor and Trainer ensures continuous education and training around specific job-related skills. Key responsibilities include:

  • Works closely with hiring manager, SMEs, and the new hire to monitor and support the new employee in their first 90 days of employment.
  • Builds key relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure that content and programming for training programs delivered outside of OD are consistent with best practices and adult learning theory.
  • Schedules and delivers training programs using various modalities, including Instructor-Led Training, Virtual Instructor-Led Training, and self-paced e-learning.
  • Ensures that upskilling and new learning opportunities are consistently delivered inside the Association.
  • Ensures accessibility of training programs to employees throughout the association.
  • Works with the VPOD to ensure consistent assessments are being utilized throughout the organization.
  • Discerns data coming from the assessments to make training content adjustments if needed.
  • Facilitates customer service training for the Association in-person, virtually and through various learning portals.
  • Works with the Regional Offices, department leaders, and all employees to ensure they understand the learning programs offered and the value they provide.
  • Markets and communicates training programs to encourage participation.
  • Shares learning outcomes and survey results with leaders as well as work with teams and departments to determine the appropriate training needed.
  • Designs and undertakes competency-related work to ensure we are assessing critical skills required of individuals and key processes.
  • Works with the Learning and Development Program Director to support New Employee Orientation programs and new employee learning journeys.

Department Support

The Learning Advisor and Trainer supports department specific technical training needs for all employees. Provides direction regarding best practices for learning and application.

  • Supports SMEs regarding the creation of instructional documents, presentations, e-learning resources, facilitator guides and learning participant materials, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with procedures, team structures and system capabilities
  • Applies tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods to support technical learning.
  • Works with the Leaning and Development Program Director to create supporting material/media (audio, video, podcasts, simulations, etc.)
  • Supports large Association-wide program initiatives and change initiatives from a training perspective.

Project & Committee Facilitation

The Learning Advisor and Trainer serves as a key member and resource for various committees providing direction, constructive feedback, and supporting implementation.

  • Coordinates with committee leads and members to provide insight and assist with developing training material and instructional documents.
  • Serves on committees and working forums that utilize OD or training in some capacity.

Software

  • Works with the Policy and Procedure Administrator in identifying and maintaining appropriate software and/or platform to be utilized in the administration of policies, procedures, and instructions
  • Remains current on developments in training and instructional methodologies, including technology enhancements, making software implementation recommendations as identified

Data Security and Confidentiality

  • Appropriately protects the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association's systems and data and clients' data

Required Skills

  • Ability to learn, organize and communicate technical subject matter as well as soft skills
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
  • Skill in utilizing a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods
  • A strong work ethic and independent thinking is required as well as the ability to influence and impact employees inside the organization
  • A strong knowledge of how to design, develop, and deliver course curriculums and training materials to be effective
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to interact cross-functionally across the organization and to organize and manage time and projects effectively. The ability to identify ways to make things work better for learners
  • Remain abreast of adult learning principles, instructional design methods, and industry trends and apply them accordingly
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative to anticipate and overcome obstacles, set priorities, see projects through to completion, and regularly deliver on expectations
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, adult education, educational technology or related field and 3+ years of in-person facilitation and training, technical training, instructional writing, or adult education experience;

Or equivalent education, experience, and skillset sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
