Summary of Job Purpose

Lift Operations is responsible for the safe loading and unloading of our customers on chair lifts, carpet conveyor and surface lifts. This is an outdoor and physically demanding position. Daily duties include shoveling and manicuring snow on loading and unloading areas. Lift Operations is a team-oriented department focused on providing our guests with excellent customer service.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This job description is intended as a summary of the primary responsibilities of and the qualifications for the position. Under the supervision of the Lift Operations Managers, Supervisors and Lead Operators, the Lift Operator shall be required to:

-Comply with the A.N.S.I. code B77.1 section 4.3.2.3.3 2006, which states the duties of the operations shall be as follows:

  1. Maintain orderly passenger traffic conditions within his/her area jurisdiction.
  2. Advise and assist passengers, as required.
  3. Maintain surveillance of his/her area of jurisdiction

-Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This involves interacting with customers in a courteous manner and being able to answer questions professionally.

-Assist with the daily operation of your assigned ski lift, to include: the inspecting and checking of the lift prior to operation, while maintaining the lift house, equipment, and surrounding area throughout your shift to ensure they remain in a neat and orderly manner.

-Continually remain vigilant to the needs of both the equipment and the skiing/boarding customers and react to those needs in a protective manner while maintaining quality service.

-Maintain carriers, loading and unloading areas, platforms, and ramps, (shoveling), in such a manner as to make it easy for the skiers/boarders to load and unload with a high degree of care and efficiency.

-Provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming or slope conditions, and related information intended to help the customer maximize their skiing experience.

-Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine and emergency situations.

-Maintain any appropriate records as set forth by company policy and procedures.

-While remaining professional and friendly, check customers’ tickets for accuracy and provide current information.

-Support and promote company policies and procedures.

-Keep updated on current events at Dodge Ridge.

-Requires communication with other departments in a professional manner.

-Possess knowledge in rope rescue skills; assist in lift evacuations.

-Comply to and enforce safety rules and policies.

-Be knowledgeable of and promote hill safety, risk awareness, and good housekeeping procedures.

-Be prepared for walking and working on uneven ground, deep powder, and icy and wet surfaces.

Job Qualifications

-Complete the initial lift operations training program, and understand the Customer Service Policy of Dodge Ridge.

-Ability to consistently deliver excellent customer service.

-Be aware of the ski area’s terrain and facilities.

-Be well groomed and present a professional public image.

-Maintain a courteous, pleasant demeanor in person and on the telephone.

-Be in good physical condition, as this position requires standing for long periods of time and the shoveling of snow.

-May be required at times to do heavy, awkward lifting, (up to 100lbs.-with assistance).

-Must be capable of tolerating heights.

-Must be at least 18 years old

-Have good manual and physical dexterity skills.

-Possess the ability to learn and be knowledgeable of the needs of the equipment and standard procedures for their care and safe operation.

-Possess the ability to read and write legibly, and to use good composition skills to complete reports, forms, etc.

-Be punctual, honest, trustworthy, and posses good judgment.

Work Schedules

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods, you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Work is typically outside working directly with resort guests and other resort staff members. It can be noisy, cold, wet, or humid. You may be expected to work in high places and frequently you will work around moving objects. At times you may be inside your lift shack.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job, as listed below. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift.

-Warm boots with vibram soles (sorrels, ect.)

The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies.
