SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Medical Assistants (MA) will be responsible for an array of activities related to patient scheduling and care, including greeting and checking-in patients, as well as verifying information supplied by clients. MA’s will assist in client care through the initial examination of the client, recording of information in client charts, and the administration of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). MA’s will also support client care by monitoring the medical line, communicating with pharmacies, and verifying insurance; as well as other administrative functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Welcome clients by greeting them in person or on the telephone.
  2. Schedule client appointments and make appointment reminder phone calls.
  3. Verify client information each visit by interviewing patient, recording pertinent information, and confirming purpose of visit. (i.e. insurance, address, contact information, and medical history)
  4. Assist clients in filling out necessary paperwork; i.e. completing insurance forms and responding to insurance and/or other third-party inquiries.
  5. Record billing information of services rendered by receiving and processing cash, check, and credit card payments.
  6. Prepare clients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room[JD1] and/or preparing video technology for telehealth visits when applicable.
  7. Perform preliminary physical tests; such as blood pressure and weight then enter the results in the clients electronic health record
  8. Relay physician's orders and questions.
  9. Educate clients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
  10. Maintain safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  11. Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock in the medical room and verifying receipt of new orders.
  12. Enhance practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  13. Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping client care information confidential.
  14. Serve and protect the agency, physician, and/or psychiatrist by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements.

EDUCATION:

Requires a high school diploma, medical assistant certificate and 0-2 years of experience in a related field. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Work under immediate supervision.
