Seward Community Health Center (SCHC) is seeking a Full-Time Registration/Billing Specialist for our small community health center located in beautiful Seward, Alaska. The salary for this position starts at $22/hr with scheduled increases to $24/hr following an On-the-Job Training Apprenticeship Program. Hours are Monday-Friday, between 9 am - 6 pm, with occasional Saturday coverage.

On-The-Job Training Apprenticeship Opportunity:

SCHC is committed to investing in the growth and development of our employees. As part of this commitment, this position is offered as part of an on-the-job training program. This program will provide comprehensive training and support for the selected individual to become certified as a Billing and Coding Specialist within two years, at no cost to the employee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greets visitors and serve as a liaison for patients, providers, and staff.
  • Directs all incoming calls made to SCHC including scheduling of patient appointments following patient triage processes.
  • Facilitates accurate and complete collection of patient demographic and billing/insurance information during registration.
  • Verifies patient insurance & benefit coverage and eligibility including obtaining necessary authorizations and referrals for service, as required.
  • Maintains patient records and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Negotiates payment from patients including referrals for screening to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
  • Reconciles payments received and ensures that cash is secured.
  • Performs patient check-out procedures, including scheduling of follow-up appointments.
  • Clearly explains service charges to customers.
  • Works with billing staff to resolve any registration/charge/payment errors.
  • Assists in enrolling patients in our sliding fee discount program and other patient assistance services.

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of Front Office / Registration experience. Billing or medical clinic office experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communications, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, attitude, and demeanor. Superior telephone communication skills.
  • Has excellent customer service skills
  • Possesses computer skills with proficiency in data entry and keyboarding skills
  • Has knowledge in or can be easily trained in aspects of medical billing, to include Medicaid, Medicare, and Private Insurance
  • Has ability to handle multiple tasks ensuring completion with minimal supervision
  • Must have good attention to detail
