Position Summary:

This position is responsible for directing and coaching the University’s Volleyball Program.

Responsibilities/Accountability:

Primary media contact for Dillard University athletics department.

Writing and publishing the media guides, game programs, departmental newsletters, schedule cards, schedule posters, game notes, and press releases.

Works with the Athletic Director and Development Office to procure sponsors to cover the costs of marketing and promotional materials.

Pitching stories to media outlets and act as liaison to media for Dillard University athletics department.

Administering and managing the official athletics website (www.dillardbleudevils.com

Maintaining and expanding social media ventures for Dillard University athletics (Facebook, twitter, etc.) to continue to promote our teams, coaches, and student-athletes.

Arranging photography for all sports. Assistant Athletic Director for Communication and Game Operations may have to perform sports related photography on an as-needed basis in the absence of other professionals.

Overseeing game day management responsibilities including supervision and training of student assistants for game day operations. Game day operations include – gym set-up and gym breakdown, public address announcer, music, scoreboard, hospitality room, half-time/time-out promotions, security, and other pertinent game day personnel, etc.

Preparing public address scripts for game day announcer

Supplying athletics information for university magazine and e-newsletter.

Maintaining NAIA and league compliance for statistical records and reporting for all sports (to include award nominations, etc.)

Proficient knowledge of “In-game” statistics programs

Traveling to away contest, keeping statistics, and providing game recaps for all athletics media outlets.

Management of special projects (Bleu Devil Club, Dillard University Athletics Hall of Fame; Bleu Devil Classic Game and Gala, Dillard University Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony, and Senior Night

Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required in communications, journalism or a closely related field master’s degree is preferred.
  2. 1-3 years’ experience as a full-time assistant sports information director.
  3. Extensive writing experience and recording of sport statistics at the NAIA intercollegiate level is required.
  4. Previous experience dealing with the media on local, regional, and national level is required.
  5. Experience in management and promotion of regional and national tournaments is helpful.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and be ability to work well with supervisor, coworkers, University community, and the public.

Work Conditions

  1. The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  2. The work is typically performed in an office and in athletics facilities.
  3. The scope of the job frequently requires working in the evenings and on weekends.
