The Underwriter II position entails the review of merchant accounts, analyzing merchant financial and activity risk, compliance with law and association rules, and other operational duties in the normal course of merchant acquiring business.  This position is also responsible for relationship management and rapport building with ISOs as well as ad hoc projects, as deemed necessary by management. 

 

Essential Functions:  

  • Underwrites prospective merchant accounts in accordance with the Merchant Services Policy and Card Brand regulations, which includes developing collateral structures for accounts when applicable.
  • Re-underwrites previously boarded accounts.
  • Relationships management and rapport building with ISOs.
  • Monitors the overall quality and performance of individual ISO portfolios, assesses the risk associated with each portfolio, and makes recommendations to management related to each of the ISO portfolios.
  • Trains and mentors new ISOs to ensure compliance with Merrick Bank policies and procedures.
  • Provides operational assistance as needed to the Merchant Services Department
  • Compliance with Laws & Regulations: 
  • Responsible for complying with all of the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
  • Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, four (4) years’ experience accepted in lieu of education requirement.
  • Three (3) years of risk-related experience in the acquiring industry is required. 

Summary of Qualifications: 

  • Experience in analyzing financial statements is required
  • Detail-oriented and must have the ability to prioritize all tasks appropriately.
  • Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook experience is required.
  • Possess knowledge of the acquiring credit card business with respect to industry trends, business risk factors, merchant signing requirements, and other operational procedures associated with booking merchants.
  • Specific knowledge of front and back-end systems and how to structure these systems to accommodate risk mitigation techniques for merchant accounts.
  • Communicate effectively, written and verbal.
