Job Description:

 

 

  • Position Code: MTHAC
  • Job Type: Part-time, Non-Exempt, 15-20 hours per week, 10-month position
  • Hours/Schedule: Varies, between the hours of Monday-Thursday 10:00am-6:00pm, Friday 10:00am-3pm
  • Position Location: Longmeadow, MA

 

 

The Academic Coach will function in a professional role as a mathematics content expert who will assist students as they engage the Bay Path mathematics curriculum. The Academic Coach will help students with specific questions that arise and offer specialized instruction on challenging topics. Hours and days will vary during the 10-month period and will not exceed 20 hours per week.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

 

  • Provide supplemental instruction and guidance to students in the most challenging math courses.
  • Contact and schedule regular coaching sessions with assigned students (ALLI students and others deemed academically at-risk).
  • Provide supplemental instruction/tutoring for students who need additional math help in non-math courses.
  • Develop mathematics modules to embed in non-math courses to support course content (ex: Economics, Chemistry).
  • Work collaboratively with individual faculty members in developing supplemental instruction or modules.
  • Utilize MyMathLab to provide personalized support to students who seek tutoring in the learning commons.
  • Attend trainings as required.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

  • Maintain accurate student information, 1) projecting, assessing, and reporting on student performance, and 2) prioritizing student contact so that most at-risk students are handled first.
  • Establish rapport and build trusting relationships with a diverse student population by delivering personalized, constructive, engaging, motivating, and informative coaching sessions.
  • Organize and carry out special projects/workshops relating to academic skills involving students, staff, or the general student population.
  • Work with students having a great range of skills, motivation and educational goals
  • Work with minimum supervision
  • Accept a flexible work schedule that includes evenings or other alternate scheduling as needed
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioecomonic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of Bay Path University students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

 

 

  • Master's degree in Mathematics.
  • Experience providing student support and instruction; demonstrated ability to work with struggling or at-risk learners.
  • Working knowledge of MyMathLab software program.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and in accordance with HIPPA and FERPA.
  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Committed to a culture of diversity and respect: demonstrated ability to build working relationships with people having a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences different one's own.
  • General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose, and goals and the role an Academic Coach in achieving those goals.
