Position Description:

Responsible for the daily running of the production departments. Maintaining a continuous flow of production by assigning people to jobs and operations that will complete the production schedule in the most efficient manner. Controlling costs within plan levels to meet MSP business objectives.

Principle duties / Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and an organized work area.

  • Responsible for the training and development of department personnel.

  • Responsible for establishing and/or following the production work schedule to insure timely delivery of products.

  • Responsible for work assignments to meet customer delivery needs.

  • Responsible for the performance of department personnel and administration of Company policies and rules.

  • Inform Production Control and the Manufacturing Manager of production problems that will affect product delivery.

  • Responsible to support manufacturing through the timely re-supply of stored components.

  • Responsible for the accuracy of materials and transactions within the production departments.

  • Responsible for the accuracy of all production and time reporting turned in by employees.

  • Responsible for the proper care and operation of all production equipment.

  • Purchase production tooling to support department operations.

  • Establish and maintain a good work atmosphere within the department.

  • Promote and support the continuous improvement process and make recommendations on process tooling and fixture improvements.

  • Responsible for implementing systems, procedures, policies and methods.

  • Keep pertinent records

  • Assist in developing the business plan.

  • Responsible for knowing, following and enforcing the Labor Agreement.

Performance Measures:

  • Safe operation of the production departments.

  • On-time delivery performance products.

  • Continuous improvements.

  • Quality performance of department personnel.

  • Meeting business objectives including department budgets.

  • Inventory accuracy within the production departments.

  • Accuracy of production and time reporting.

  • Communications.

  • General condition of the area and proper operations of all equipment.

  • Proper prioritizing of tasks to meet business objectives.

Interactions:

  • Reports to the Manufacturing Manager.

  • Must effectively communicate on problems and issues that require higher level decisions.

  • Daily interaction with production supervisors. Must effectively communicate equipment issues and work well with the supervisors to schedule equipment repairs.

  • Works with department managers/supervisors on equipment issues.

  • Must work well with Production Control to schedule product to meet customer needs.

  • Work with Engineering to insure accuracy of Bills of Materials, routings, etc. as well as on process and equipment issues.

  • Work with accounting to insure accuracy of time records, product reporting, etc.

  • Interacts with teams in support of team activities and support the continuous improvement process.

  • Works closely with the Materials and Purchasing department to procure inventory to meet customer requirements.

  • Contacts vendors for information in support of team activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing operations or similar experience.
  • At least 2 years in supervision or comparable experience, preferably in a union environment.
  • High School Diploma, or GED.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes preferably assembly, injection molding and stamping.

  • Excellent communication skills; oral and written.
  • Good Computer skills; word processing, Power Point, Excel, and Internet exploring.
  • Independent and self-starting.
