Job Description
The Trackmobile Operators/Switchpersons with Cando are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services at a customer site in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. Working in a customer oriented environment, the switching crew must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensuring safe operation of the Titan remote capable trackmobile and train movements including conducting clear and concise job briefings
- Applying rules, special instructions, and switching procedures while operating as a Trackmobile Operator or Switchperson including operating switches and derails, coupling and uncoupling rail cars, managing air hoses, applying and releasing handbrakes
- Completing daily inspection and testing of the trackmobile brakes and safety devices
- Providing protection of train, track, and equipment possibly in the form of flagging.
- Inspecting and maintaining the track including cleaning switches, light track repairs, snow clearing and weed control
- Performing plant and equipment inspections and air brake tests
- Promptly reporting of all safety, equipment, and track problems to the Manager
- Complying with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures and regulations imposed by government, the customer, and/or Cando; practicing and promoting safe work habits
- Exerting "best effort" to protect human life, human safety and company property
- Keeping the site and equipment safe, clean, and tidy
- Completing daily reports, daily logs, and other reports deemed necessary
- Actively participating with the team and providing excellent customer service while promoting a superior company image
- Participating in training or company initiatives as required
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Ability to obtain GCOR certification, meet all customer site requirements, and hold and maintain safety critical medical status including passing drug and alcohol testing
- Hold and maintain a valid driver's license
- Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings, policy and procedure manuals, and switching lists
- Physically fit including the ability to pull self-up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis, able to lift and twist air hoses, able to secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches
- Knowledge with technology and computer systems with a willingness to use Excel and Outlook on a daily basis
- Strong problem solving and decision making abilities
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Strong customer service skills
Education and Experience
- GCOR Qualified
- Experience as a Trackmobile or Switchperson an asset
Details Specific to Working Supervisor
- Conducting safety and efficiency audits
- Planning daily operations for servicing our customers
- Overseeing the switching operations to ensure that movements are conducted safely and efficiently
- Ensuring that inspections and maintenance are performed on all railcars, equipment and track including the prompt removal or snow and weed control
