SCOPE OF WORK: Performs skilled work in the routine grounds, and/or building maintenance. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor at Lakes Region Community College. This temporary position is effective April through October working up to 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Performs grounds maintenance duties including, but not limited to, cutting of grass, trimming hedges and planting, weeding and custodial care in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition.
  • Operates and maintains all equipment and vehicles as needed to perform duties assigned.
  • Report building and grounds issues as well as mechanical issues with equipment as they may arise to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist with function set-ups and breakdowns of rooms as needed and assist with moving/relocating furniture throughout campus.
  • Performs manual work in the care, cleaning and maintenance of floors, classrooms, labs, offices, general convening/meeting rooms, halls, and rest rooms.
  • At times will assist in maintenance work which includes general electrical, plumbing, carpentry, maintenance and repair, concrete/tile replacement and repair, ceiling tile replacement, etc.
  • Observes sound safety practices and reports safety concerns to Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Mandatory attendance/ participation with set up and break down of graduation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.

Experience: Two years' experience in grounds-keeping, or custodial, or light maintenance work with equipment operation and maintenance and some supervisory or project coordination experience.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.

WORK TRAITS: Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. Some knowledge of the principles of operation of motor equipment sufficient to detect defective operation and to make minor repairs. Some knowledge of the care and safe operation of trucks and light motor driven equipment. Working knowledge of state motor vehicle laws. Considerable knowledge of grounds-keeping and simple practices relating to the care of flowers, lawns, trees and shrubs. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to keep records and makes schedules. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with subordinates and other employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority. Must be willing and able to attend any instructional training or certifications, that pertains to operating and or maintaining grounds equipment and cleaning equipment. Competency in the safe operation of all hand tools and power tools associated with groundskeeping and campus repairs. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position’s assigned duties.
