**This position is 25 hours per week**

POSITION SUMMARY:

In a team environment, provides supervision of youth for the Valle Lindo recreation program. Assists in organizing and providing a range of educational and recreational activities. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in creatively organizing and implementing programs appropriate for youth in the program, activities include:
  • Reading sessions
  • Study and tutoring
  • Arts and crafts activities
  • Nutritional classes
  • STEM and Social Emotional Learning
  • Sports
  • Field trips (occasionally)
  • Provides supervision to youth during program activities
  • Establishes rules & expectations for conduct and appropriate behavior management
  • Establishes good rapport with children and families
  • Follows program safety rules and regulations
  • Attends program functions (i.e., team meetings, trainings, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Advocates for the values of a diverse population within CHSW and the Community

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must possess strong human relations skills to communicate and work effectively within a culturally diverse work environment and community
  • Knowledge of MS Office

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Generally, functions in a classroom environment; however, may conduct meetings and other business in: Classrooms, community settings, or off-site locations for professional development activities.
  • Quarterly travel required for professional development opportunities.

WORKING REMOTELY:

Working remotely is a benefit of Children’s Home Society of Washington’s flexible workplace, but remote work cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Remote work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May engage in daily outdoor playground activities including walking times with children so exposure to outdoor natural elements is expected.
  • Ability to be continuously moving around and occasionally sit, crouch, and kneel.
  • Ability to frequently carry up to 10lbs and occasionally up to 50lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a child development program (i.e. as a mentor/tutor in an educational or summer recreational program)
  • One-year experience in working with children and parents from a culturally diverse and low-income population
  • Must be able to attend a two-day training
  • Proof of negative one step Mantoux TB skin test prior to start of employment. For those who have previously tested positive, documented proof of treatment from a doctor or a negative chest x-ray must be provided
  • Proof of CPR and First Aid Certification is required with 30 days of hire
  • Valid Washington State Driver license
  • Valid Food Handlers Permit within 30 days of hire

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Course work in Education, Social Services, Physical Education or related field
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, fluent in speaking, reading and writing
  • Knowledge and ability to organize and implement an outdoor programming
  • Experience in sporting activities

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $16.21-$21.10. The starting salary range for this position is $16.21-$17.43 DOE for external candidates.

Employees will also receive 10 days of vacation leave each year, three Employee Appreciation Day each year, and will accrue one sick day per month (pro-rated for part-time employees). Employees will also enjoy 15 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. We also offer EAP and mental health benefits.
