Job Title: Maintenance Worker - IST
(Intermittent/Seasonal/Temporary II, 99208)
FLSA: Non-Exempt Salary: $14.75/hr.
Reports To: Road and Bridge Supervisor PCN: PWX001, PWX003
Department: Public Works Department Date: March 2019
JOB SUMMARY
The job duties of the Maintenance Worker - IST include but are not limited to provide road and bridge maintenance and construction, construction and maintenance materials handling, and facilities maintenance; and to provide responsive, courteous and efficient service to County residents and the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties described below are indicative of what the Maintenance Worker - IST might be asked to perform. This job description is to incorporate any County resolutions for the position of Maintenance Worker or other designated equipment job descriptions. This position description is not designed to list all tasks and responsibilities of this position. Geary County reserves the right to revise or change job duties as the need may arise. This position description does not constitute a written or implied contract of employment.
Operational Functions:
  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance and preventative maintenance.
  • Load materials and perform manual work- related tasks as required.
  • Mow and cut brush.
  • Work as a flag person.
  • Mow roadside grass.
  • Paints walls and ceilings as directed.
  • Move furniture, set up tables and chairs for meetings.
  • Move equipment, large-volume records around, among and between offices and storage facilities.
  • Assist with snow removal from sidewalks, steps/landings using shovel and snow blower.
  • Shampoo carpets and strips / wax / buff / burnishes floors.
  • Replace light bulbs.
  • Remove garbage, empty wastepaper baskets, and recycling containers and dispose of these in an appropriate manner.
  • Sweep outside steps/landings.
  • Clean and sanitize public restrooms, room fixtures, dust, mops, vacuums, and sweeps floors.
  • Clean ditches ensure intersections are clear and install and maintain clean culverts to allow for proper water flow. Clear trash from roadside.
  • Remove dead animals and other hazards from roadways.
  • Perform light mechanical work.
  • Maintain lawns and sidewalks.
  • Remove limbs, branches, and trees.
  • Use small and large power tools such as chain saws, woodchipper, etc.
  • Install signs.
Types of Equipment:
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment I.e. lawn mower, tractor, pickup and other related equipment.
  • Ability to use two-way radios, computer, fax machine, measuring tapes, levels, hand tools, power tools, chain saws and other machinery.
  • Other equipment could be required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· High School diploma or GED equivalent.
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A current Class C Kansas driver’s license.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety operations of equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend, retain and apply County, State, and Federal policies and legislation, i.e. local resolutions and ordinances, procedure manuals, warning labels, etc.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment I.e. lawn mower, tractor, pickup and other related equipment.
  • Ability to use two-way radios, computer, fax machine, measuring tapes, levels, hand tools, power tools, and other machinery.
  • Other equipment could be required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional and friendly manner with customers, citizens, co-workers and management.
  • Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to communicate and convey information regarding policies and processes to others in both written and verbal form.
