Job Description

The Therapy Exercise Coordinator (TEC) is able to supervise exercise of therapy patients that is delegated by the Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow established procedures and observing safety precautions in the application and use of heat, cold, light, water, sounds and iontophoresis.
  • Carry out positioning, exercise, and treatment with special equipment.
  • Train patients in exercise, ambulation, and activities of daily living.
  • Transport patients in wheelchair to and from PT, ASC, clinic, MRI, x-ray and car as needed. Assist patient and family member with transfer as needed while maintaining post-op precautions and patient safety.
  • Observe and report patient responses to treatment to PT/PTA and ensure accurate and timely documentation is complete and cosigned by PT/PTA.
  • Serve as an assistant to the PT when the PT performance tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures.
  • Responsible for floating in the PT department, primarily in the exercise equipment area, assisting patients on/off equipment in a safe manner.
  • Follow exercise flowsheet for the patient and consult with PT/PTA for any changes or modifications (all progressions/regressions of patients will be determined by the supervising PT/PTA).
  • Assist PT leadership with maintenance of exercise and safety equipment.
  • Care for braces, prostheses, bandages, and other actual assistive devices.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment and assist with clerical activities as needed.
  • Have a sound working knowledge and ability to assist with clerical tasks such as scheduling patient appointments for therapy, answering and returning phone calls, etc.
  • Maintain surveillance of environment conditions within the PT services area.
  • Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
  • Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a physical therapy aide, physical therapy technician, or medical assistant working with physical therapy beneficial.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification.
  • Must exercise consistent, sound, professional judgment.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and organizational skills required.

Working Conditions:

Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push, squat and/or kneel. Maximum unassisted lift up to 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
