DESCRIPTION

Light Counseling is seeking individuals pursuing Virginia State Licensure as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW (Resident in Counseling, Resident in Marriage & Family Therapy, Supervisee in Clinical Social Work). Resident Counselors practice under the direct supervision of an approved licensed mental health clinician and will assist individuals, groups, and families through the counseling relationship by working through their presenting problems, defining their counseling goals, and developing action plans to resolve life’s challenges. Resident Counselor are part of an integrated team of administrative and clinical peers who provide professional, and confidential services with a distinctively Christian approach. LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Employment with Light Counseling is of a confidential nature and operates in accordance with federal and state privacy laws and practices (i.e., HIPAA). All work is performed under supervision but does require the ability to effectively function independently, with flexibility, initiative, maturity, and decision-making within the framework of Light Counseling’s policy and employee handbook. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides client counseling services to a varied population of children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples.
  • Delivers case management services
  • Follows all regulations and company policies in service provision and documentation
  • Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques
  • Participates in weekly individual and group supervision with an assigned supervisor.
  • Takes initiative to link clients to other services
  • Must ensure all paperwork is completed that is related to their supervision, supervision updates, regulatory updates, etc.
  • May work with community groups around unmet and special needs and may carry a special community assignment relevant to the Light Counseling's mission
  • Prepares reports and forms necessary to satisfy the agency’s needs for accountability (i.e. recording, statistics, etc.).
  • May be assigned to instruct and direct students serving psychological internships
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to practice active listening skills to best react and understand how new information can impact current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to use appropriate training, instructional methods, and techniques/procedures based upon the situation and current qualifications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate via written and verbal communication.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work or related field or education equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in a counseling setting
  • Must have an active and in-good-standing resident/supervisee license with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Complete all required background checks including drug tests.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with children
  • Play Therapy experience
  • Experience working with trauma-related disorders using advanced therapy modalities (e.g., EMDR, TFCBT)
