This position holds a seat on the Company’s regional management team and is responsible for overseeing and owning the programs for administration, acquisition, assignment, utilization, maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of fleet vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Manager serves as the primary contact concerning the fleet and will make the ultimate decision whether a vehicle or piece of equipment is safe to operate. Essentially, s/he will spearhead the entire fleet management workflow, to improve strategies, policies, and procedures for the fleet of vehicles and equipment that are employed by the Company at all branch locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, administer, and maintain policies and procedures for everything having to do with the efficient management of fleet vehicles, equipment, and related software systems.
  • Coordinate and ensure all vehicles and equipment are adequately repaired and maintained to ensure they can be operated safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain proper documentation and data for all the areas of fleet activities including, but not limited to, accurate asset lists, preventative maintenance schedules, repair history, fleet mileage, fuel management, vehicle replacement strategy, inventory, service provider relationships and agreements, and any other operationally relevant data.
  • Establish and monitor purchasing, operational and replacement strategies for the most efficient and cost-effective operation.
  • Utilize GPS tracking software to monitor driver behavior, set appropriate alerts and identify areas to improve safe driving habits.
  • Assist the Director of Operations in preparing your department’s annual operating budget, monitor expenditures and ensure that your department remains within budgeted guidelines.
  • Coordinate with branch locations to develop and maintain a regular maintenance schedule for all vehicles and equipment; work with 3rd party service providers to negotiate service agreements and handle issues related to vehicle/equipment maintenance.
  • Ability and willingness, if needed, to take on the responsibility for all aspects of operation for an in-house, full-fledged vehicle maintenance facility; includes the hiring, training, motivation, and supervision of any fleet mechanics; works with employee(s) to correct deficiencies as well as initiate any disciplinary actions and termination procedures alongside management.
  • Serve as a resource to other departments regarding fleet-related questions and problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including those that may involve some travel to other branch locations.
Requirements:
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, Supply Chain Management, Automotive Technology, or another relevant field preferred.
  • Three (3) years or more of fleet management experience or in a similar job role, preferably within the trades industry.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Word and Excel, and exposure to other vehicle tracking and fleet management systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, have a clean driving and criminal record as required by state laws for home service companies and by the Company insurance carrier(s).
  • General knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension systems; understanding of basic vehicle mechanics, including the ability to identify when major repairs are needed.
  • Must continually change, adapt and be flexible in all areas of responsibility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and organization.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration within the workplace and with the highest integrity, professionalism, and respect.
  • Outstanding analytical, time management, decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Experience in budgeting and cost control.
  • May require bending, stooping, crouching, or other physical activity to verify vehicle issues with technicians.
  • Travel may be necessary.
