Job Description

Job Title: Automation & Maintenance Technician

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Director of Manufacturing

Summary: As an Automation & Maintenance Team Member, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and functionality of mechanical, electrical, and PLC systems within our facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on experience with building maintenance, equipment maintenance, and a proactive approach to preventive maintenance. This role requires a team player with a positive attitude who is eager to contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Top Accountabilities:

  1. Execute timely maintenance on equipment as outlined by our Total Preventive Maintenance program, accurately documenting when completed along with any other observations that need to be addressed to prevent future equipment challenges.
  2. Execute timely repairs to equipment along with acting as a liaison with outside service reps, as needed and/or contact outside service reps. to schedule repairs as needed minimizing equipment downtime and to proactively schedule preventative maintenance activities.
  3. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, troubleshoot issues, and perform necessary repairs to minimize production downtime.
  4. Address building maintenance needs, including HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing, and structural components.
  5. Identify opportunities for process improvement in maintenance procedures, contributing to overall operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Mechanical Maintenance:
    • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of mechanical systems.
    • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime.
    • Proactively identify and address potential issues to prevent unplanned downtime.
    • Collaborate with the maintenance team to implement preventive maintenance schedules.
    • Maintain all production and production support equipment including forklifts, scrubbers, lifts, skid loader, and other similar equipment.
  1. Electrical and PLC Troubleshooting:
    • Diagnose and repair electrical issues in machinery and systems.
    • Perform troubleshooting and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
    • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards.
  2. Building Maintenance:
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve potential issues.
    • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate building-related activities.
    • Maintain all plant facility equipment including HVAC units, lighting, physical structure, plumbing, outside grounds, equipment storage areas and the equipment in storage.
  3. Equipment Maintenance:
    • Maintain and repair production equipment to ensure optimal performance.
    • Collaborate with production teams to address equipment-related concerns.
    • Collaborate with production teams to establish maintenance best practices.
    • Execute preventive maintenance plans for equipment to minimize breakdowns.
    • Quick and timely response to submitted work orders.
    • Regularly inspect machinery and equipment to identify signs of wear, damage, or potential problems, taking proactive measures to address issues.
  4. Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other members of the maintenance team to achieve common goals.
    • Provide support and assistance to colleagues during maintenance activities.
    • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
    • Provide assistance and support for new equipment build activities.
    • Assist in the evaluation of new and or replacement equipment.
    • Create a safe working environment and maintain safety and security for your area.
    • Work closely with production staff to understand equipment needs, prioritize maintenance tasks, and address issues that may impact production schedules.
    • Collaborate with engineering team to implement upgrades or modifications to existing equipment, improving performance and efficiency.
  5. Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
    • Document troubleshooting processes and solutions for future reference.
    • Assist in updating and creating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Submit PO’s for MRO items

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance, with a focus on preventive measures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, especially mechanical, electronic PLC systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
  • Knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow within the organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Curiosity driven, motivated to make it uniquely better.
  • Strong awareness and responsibility of safety
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform shop math and utilize a variety of measurement equipment.
  • Able to lift 20 lbs repetitively, up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Forklift certification, preferred.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or vocational training in a Mechanical or Electrical is a plus. Relevant certifications in maintenance or technical fields are a plus.
