Colorado International Language Academy (CILA) is an international charter school with language immersion (50% in 1st- 5th grades) in three world languages. Our students learn math and language literacy, as well as cultural aspects in their chosen target language. Children can study Mandarin Chinese, German, or Spanish.

Summary:

The job of the Bus Driver Substitute was established for the purpose/s of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions in a school vehicle; ensuring vehicle operation is in a safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists students and other passengers (e.g. seating, restraints, special equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from vehicles including both emergency situations and normal transport.
  • Drives school bus for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes and to/from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Informs Principal of incidents (e.g. rules, regulations, laws, procedures, suspicious situations, etc.) for the purpose of providing information for follow-up action and/or proper procedures.
  • Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.
  • Maintains assigned vehicle, both interior and exterior (e.g. cleaning floors/windows/seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and meeting state requirements.
  • Meets requirements for driving a school bus as required by CDE (e.g., yearly MVR check, minimum of bi-annual physical, maintain familiarity with CDE requirements, testing, etc.)
  • Monitors passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers.
  • Performs first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs of passengers.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. daily mileage and condition reports, incident/accident reports, inspections, disciplinary and positive behavior reports, mileage, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have a valid CDL with a P2S endorsement and a current MVR at time of interview along with current First Aid card and current Medical Examiner's Card.
  • Experience in transporting Kindergarten through 6th grade is a plus.
  • Position requires a driver to be knowledgeable in performing all state and Federal inspections and to abide by all transportation laws.
  • Hours are approximately from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Additional hours available for contracted services).
