Job Summary:

As a Network Technician I, you play a key role in accelerating organizational success by analyzing and controlling the technical architecture of Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks. You research, test, evaluate, and recommend telecommunication and data network systems. You interface with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors to determine the most appropriate type of hardware installation. You support LAN/WAN networks throughout the organization.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Access equipment and Ethernet Transport equipment provisioning & maintenance
  • P2P wireless and ISP network provisioning & maintenance
  • MetaSwitch on-site assistance
  • Hosted PBX troubleshooting
  • Project work

You successfully fulfill the following essential duties and responsibilities:

You utilize your ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS:

  • Maintain documentation for network equipment and locations, inventory lists, and current software versions.
  • Establish schedules for routine maintenance, backups, and updates and ensure scheduled activities are performed.

You use your COLLABORATIVE SKILLS:

  • Assist the central office technician as needed.
  • Support the company by completing other duties as assigned.

You use your TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Serve as the primary IP resource for the company’s public IP network as it relates to VOIP, softswitch, and other equipment that uses IP communication.
  • Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Assist with network projects involving additions, updates, repairs, and replacements of network hardware and software.
  • Provide day-to-day support and routine maintenance of internal and external network equipment and software, including transport, access, routing, and switching.
  • Monitor network connectivity across core and distribution network hardware, including tasks such as:
    1. Utilize monitoring software to monitor alarms, log files, and operating conditions to identify potential failures.
    2. Notify others of service-affecting events.
    3. Resolve equipment issues.
    4. Coordinate repair efforts.
  • Provide a high level of protection to company & customer network, equipment, and data through tasks such as:
    1. Research, recommend and implement cybersecurity technologies, products, and services.
    2. Research, recommend and implement new and improved security hardware, software, and monitoring devices.
  • Foster your professional growth and help the company determine future opportunities through initiatives such as:
    1. Research emerging technologies, products, and services and make recommendations.
    2. Review technical manuals and brochures to determine that equipment meets organization’s requirements.
    3. Attend seminars and trade shows, meet with vendors, and stay current on industry trends.
    4. Analyze test data and recommend hardware or software for purchase and plan and recommend future internal networking improvements.

  • Interact with customers regarding troubleshooting and maintenance pertaining to advanced/complex customer troubles or network infrastructure issues.

You will meet the following educational, licensing, certification, and work experience requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in communications technology or related area, or a combination of education and applicable experience preferred.
  • MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Profession preferred
  • Proficient with Cisco or Juniper CLI preferred
  • Familiarity with MetaSphere, MetaSwitch, ethernet transport, Minerva, and Adtran/Calix preferred.
  • Point-to-point wireless equipment preferred
  • Experience or training in the following required:
  1. LAN/WAN networking, central office transport and switching, IP networking, routing and network design.
  2. Installing, troubleshooting, and repairing internet, phone, and hosted VOIP phone equipment.
  3. Office productivity software (email, calendar, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, etc.).
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license; driving record must meet the criteria of the company’s insurance carrier for acceptance of coverage.
