CHB Counselors

COA Site: Camp Helen Brachman, 9341 Asbury Drive, Almond, WI 54909

Dates: June 9 – August 17

Pay: Based on experience and training. $350-$380 per week which includes room and board.

We seek adults who are passionate about working with youth and want to make a positive difference in each camper’s life. Our camp programs provide opportunities for underserved youth aged 8 to 15 to enjoy a rural habitat, enjoy and learn about nature, try new adventures, and learn new skills necessary. Camp Helen Brachman is a piece of the good!

The work environment is an outdoor camp environment. The person will spend much time out-of-doors which can mean exposure to hot, cold, rainy weather. It also involves various activities with youth requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing situations and emergencies.

This position is the primary caregiver for campers, guiding campers in personal growth and daily living skills. They live in the cabin with the campers. A 100% focus on campers and meeting their needs is critical.

General Counselors are responsible for designing and leading activities in a specific area of personal interest.

Program Counselors are responsible for designing and leading activities in a specific core program area: archery, art, field sports, lifeguard/swimming, lifeguard/boating, nature, teambuilding.

General Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 18 by June 1, 2024
  • CPR / First Aid certification (or willing to get at camp)
  • Experience or desire to work directly with youth from underserved areas
  • Philosophical compatibility with COA mission and youth development methods
  • Effective interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships. Cultural competency. Respect for diversity of all types.
  • Flexibility to work in different areas. Is a team player.
  • Works well independently and under pressure
  • Love of outdoors and being active

The physical requirements are the ability to:

  • Successfully perform the program activity
  • Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Move/run, i.e., to physically engage with the youth and actively participate in programming
  • Lift and carry at least 30 pounds
  • Identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities
