Job Description:
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Assistant Manager - Rail to support field services for Class 1 Railroads, Regional Short Lines, Transit Systems, State DOT's, as well as Railroad Suppliers, Contractors, and Consultants alike.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Railroad Engineering, Railroad Design, Railroad Construction, and/or Railroad Business (Preferred).

Equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.

Required Experience:
Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in Railroad Engineering, Railroad Design, Railroad Construction, and/or Railroad Business (Class 1 Preferred).

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Assistant Manager, Manager, Regional Manager, and/or District Manager.
  • Proven experience as an instructor in both classroom and field training.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office products.
  • Advanced computer skills in Citrix Applications.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail required; well organized.
  • Strong technical writing ability.
  • Strong technical knowledge in Railroad Engineering, Railroad Design, Railroad Construction, and Safety.
  • Demonstrated team building and verbal/oral skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Direct, develop, and evaluate projects using accepted project management methodologies.
  • Develop criteria for evaluating programs, schedules, and other pertinent information related to project assignments.
  • Develop project schedules, work plans, resource requirements, cost estimates, and projections.
  • Monitor and manage project quality to ensure project deliverables are acceptable and fulfill the terms of the project contract and/or specifications.
  • Identify potential project risks and difficulties and design strategies to mitigate or avoid them.
  • Compile and distribute project information, status reports, and project expenditures.
  • Create documentation procedures to capture and deal with changes in original project plan.
  • Monitor and manage employee overtime and expenses.
  • Plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Job Duties:

  • Assist District Manager with rail, transit, and/or roadway projects.
  • Assist District Manager with managing staff and activities for projects varying in size and complexity and coordinate schedule, procedures, and resources needed to accomplish project objectives.
  • Assist District Manager with establishing work plans and staffing for each phase of project and arrange for recruitment and/or assignment of project personnel as required.
  • Assist District Manager with communication with executives and recommend project alternatives and/or schedule changes.
  • Assist District Manager with managing all aspects of the entire project life cycle (initiate, plan, execute, control, close).
  • Assist District Manager with reviewing status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as required.
  • Assist District Manager with preparing project reports for management, client, and/or others.
  • Assist District Manager with effectively leading and coordinating the activities of the team.
  • Assist District Manager with developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Identify and manage tasks as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
