Wireless Network Technician

SUMMARY

Responsible for all Network related configurations, maintenance and efficiencies. Responsible for network design configurations, optimization and the evaluation of wireless network site locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

• Develop, design, implement and maintain Wireless Network configurations.
• Support wireless networks in the VTCI & VTXC service areas.
• Perform wireless site surveys for internal or external wireless LANs.
• Perform RF Evaluations of Wireless Network and make necessary changes to the access points.
• Optimize tower networks by using layer 2 and 3 network protocols.
• Make recommendations to OSP & assist installers with customer turn up.
• Support Tower personnel with site installations and equipment replacements as necessary.
• Maintain compliance to all relevant OSHA, safety, or departmental standards as directed by supervisor.
• Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have valid Driver's License and insurable record.

Must pass pre-employment drug screen, physical and background checks.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge of CO concepts, operation, maintenance and repair in the following related subjects: basic electricity, basic telephony, AC /DC power, grounding and protection.
• Basic knowledge of digital concepts, digital switches, T1/Tn transmission, fiber optics.
• Basic and advanced installation, support of wireless equipment, tower construction and shelter facilities.
• Knowledge in RF (radio frequency) communications.
• Knowledge with IP (Internet Protocol) & TCP (Transport Control Protocol).
• General PC network communication is an asset.
• Knowledge of routing/switching technologies, Cisco IOS preferred
• Knowledge of WiFi network deployments preferred
