Job Summary and Purpose

This position serves as Tennyson Center for Children’s campus nurse and trainer. This position ensures compliance with CDHS, CDPHE, CDE and other regulatory body rules around medical treatment of children in our care, develops health related protocols and associated training, provides school required health screenings, conducts QMAP (medication administration training) and provides medical assessment as needed to children in our day treatment/educational settings and consults as needed with children in our RCCF.

This position ensures the health, safety and wellbeing of children on our campus is maintained to the highest quality standards while ensuring that Tennyson Center Staff are well trained and prepared to support children with both acute and exceptional medical needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide assessment and care to children on campus experiencing illness, injury or following the release of a TCI approved restraint
  • Make recommendations and/or determinations to day treatment/education/residential staff on appropriate steps to take for illnesses or injuries
  • Ensure compliance with campus medical records to include annual orders for medications and/or treatments, creation of MARS for medication administration, ensure medical appointments are up to date for RCCF children
  • Develop QMAP (Medication Administration) curriculum for employees and conduct training and practicums in alignment with CDPHE regulations
  • Collaborate with Admissions Team to ensure new intake documentation related to a child’s medical support needs is obtained prior to admission
  • Develop protocols for children on campus for exceptional medical needs and interventions and direct staff training on all protocols
  • Delegate skilled care needs to staff as appropriate and in conjunction with medical protocols
  • Conduct school required health care screenings on an annual basis and as needed
  • Consult on IEPs with education staff
  • Monitor campus medications for all children to ensure adequate supply of medications are available at all times
  • Ensure allergy information for each child with a known allergy is clearly documented and available per rule
  • Ensure special diets are being followed and that staff are trained on how to adhere to special diets for any children that require one
  • Provide on call support to RCCF staff who have non-emergency medical questions
  • Ensure first aid kits are readily available and fully stocked at all time and order needed supplies for medical room as needed

Other Job Functions

  • Attend CANDD conference annually
  • Provide feedback to Senior Leadership Team on gaps in campus medical practices
  • Monitor restraints at the request of campus leadership
  • Direct best practices for containment of illness outbreaks
  • Inform Quality Improvement and Compliance team on policies related to campus medical care and training

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pass a pre employment physical and drug screening
  • Ability to sit, stand and move about campus for periods of up to 8 hours a day

Working Conditions

  • 40 hours per week-on campus with flex time for on call support needs
  • Campus based office with ability to telecommute as approved by supervisor
  • Minimal travel

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education commensurate with level of licensure, Associates degree at a minimum for LPN candidates.
  • Experience-Prior experience as a school, psychiatric or pediatric nurse preferred.
  • Equivalency (experience/education in lieu of minimum qualifications if applicable)
  • Professional licensure and valid driver licensure-Must be licensed as a Colorado LPN, RN and must have a valid CO driver's license or must be able to obtain within 30 days of hire (I believe that is our policy but tweak as appropriate).

All positions require criminal CBI background check, FBI fingerprint check, State of CO child abuse check, DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, academic credential verification, and reference check.
