Responsibilities:

  • Assemble supplies and equipment needed for the procedure according to the surgeon's preference card; checks all equipment/instruments needed, prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning.
  • Prepares room and sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for procedure, anticipating what might be needed during the procedure.
  • Assists in connecting and applying surgical equipment and/or monitoring devices.
  • Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
  • Scrubs, gowns and gloves and assists with gowning and gloving other members of the OR team.
  • Accurately completes surgical count for sponges, needles, and instruments before, during and before the incision is closed with the circulator.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon; Passes instruments, equipment and sterile items to the surgeon.
  • Holds retractors or instruments, assist the surgeon with suturing, cutting, clamping, and handling tissue; Carries out other technical tasks as directed by the surgeon during the surgery.
  • Follows aseptic technique, when opening sterile supplies, setting up procedures, and during treatments/procedures.
  • Prepare dressings and assist with their application following surgery.
  • Responsible for care of instruments/equipment, including cleaning and processing of instruments and scopes.
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between surgeries and after last case; restocks supplies and organizes effectively for end-of-case clean up.
  • Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of assigned case and instruments and/or trays to be pulled for the surgery.
  • Operates, monitors and cleans steam autoclaves, washers, and sterilizing equipment; Maintains and records test results on appropriate logs.
  • Organizes and assembles surgical instrument trays and other sterilized supplies; Packages and wraps supplies and instruments.
  • Assists in other areas of the surgery department as necessary.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of supplies and linen; Keeps track of outdates.
  • Participates in department inventory and routine cleaning of the department.

Qualifications:

  • Surgical Technologist Certification
  • BLS Certification
  • Surgical experience Required



PRN (As Needed). Weekdays 6:00 am - 2:00 pm. Hours vary according to caseload.
