Position: Hunger Prevention Packer

Location: 370 McClellan Highway, East Boston

Reports to: Director of Nutrition Education, Partnerships, and Warehouse Operations

Position Type: Part-Time

YMCA of Greater Boston – Hunger Prevention Packer

Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition Education, Partnerships, and Warehouse Operations the Hunger Prevention Packer will pack grocery bags for the community in the Y’s Pantry Operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pack pantry bags:
    1. Stand on line placing food items in bags. Requires lifting up to 20 lbs
    2. Organizing pantry area/room
    3. Take inventory of food supply
    4. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
    5. Assist in Deliveries to Community Organizations and Sites
    6. Set up packing line with food at beginning of shift
    7. Stock the bagging area with food that will be used to pack bags for the day
    8. Pack grocery bags
    9. Replenish/restock food as needed for line
    10. Stack empty pallets
    11. Break down and recycle all cardboard boxes in recycling bins throughout the day
    12. Pull bags from tables and place them in carts to prepare for deliveries
    13. Assist drivers in loading deliveries
    14. Assist with deliveries as needed
  • When Packing Day Is Complete:
    1. Remove all food from line/tables and return to proper pallets
    2. Refrigerate unused produce
    3. Remove all compost boxes from line and place all spoiled produce in compost bins
    4. Disinfect all tables and carts
    5. Empty all trash bins and replace trash bags
    6. Empty all recycling bins
    7. Sweep both packing areas
    8. Other duties as assigned by manage

EDUCATION, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.
  • Ability to identify, develop and monitor partnerships that meet specific needs of families and community.
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Serve Safe, CPR, First Aid & other program specific certifications required upon or after hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 -15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
