Job Description:

ANGARAI's Geotechnical Engineer/Materials Inspector is responsible for assessing and providing expert advice on the geological and geotechnical aspects of construction projects. They also perform inspections and tests on construction materials to ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Geotechnical Analysis: Conduct geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock testing, to evaluate subsurface conditions. Analyze data and prepare geotechnical reports detailing soil properties, bearing capacity, settlement analysis, and other relevant information.
  • Foundation Design and Recommendations: Design and recommend appropriate foundation systems based on site-specific conditions and project requirements. Provide input on slope stability, earth retention systems, and other geotechnical considerations.
  • Materials Inspection: Perform inspections on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, steel, and soil. Conduct tests (e.g., compaction tests, concrete slump tests) to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Fieldwork: Conduct on-site visits to monitor construction activities and assess site conditions. Provide guidance and support to contractors to ensure proper implementation of geotechnical recommendations.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC): Develop and implement QA/QC procedures for materials testing and inspection activities. Review and verify laboratory reports and testing results to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, architects, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate geotechnical considerations into the overall project design. Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to project teams and clients.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to geotechnical engineering and materials inspection. Ensure that projects adhere to all relevant codes and standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of geotechnical investigations, materials testing, and inspection activities. Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and recommendations.

Minimum Qualification and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Current registration as a professional engineer/architect in the State of Maryland.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in material inspection or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in materials testing and inspection (e.g., ACI, NICET) may be required.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software and materials testing equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
