The Systems Engineer position is responsible for the technical definition and systematic development, integration, and verification of spaceflight projects. Responsibilities include feature/requirements development and management, design evaluation, implementation planning, verification and validation, technical documentation and risk assessment on multiple space flight systems, including both external partner and internal product development projects.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversee the systems engineering management of all technical aspects of the project life cycle for all assigned projects Phases A-E , including support of proposal concepts and development.
  • Lead the logical and systematic conversion of stakeholder requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Establish and maintain the technical baseline of the project.
  • Establish and maintain engineering validation and verification documentation of the project.
  • Perform analysis at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, optimization analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies.
  • Perform technical risk analysis and manage identified risks.
  • Compile analysis results for presentations to customers, internal project team and Space Tango leadership for use at project review milestones (e.g., PDR, CDR’s)
  • Effectively communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders, both in written and spoken form.
  • Support analysis of ST Project Life Cycle governance documents and provide recommendations for updates and improvements.
  • Travel to support customer or partner projects, stakeholder meetings, conferences and/or launches.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of system engineering relevant experience
  • Experience in leading a systems engineering effort, identifying and mitigating systems and engineering risks across programs/projects and resolving systems engineering issues.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to oversee multidisciplinary science and engineering teams responsible for planning, analyzing, implementing, and maintaining many different projects
  • Experience in defining and implementing new processes, methods, and tools, used across projects to improve efficiency and quality of deliverables and capabilities
  • Previous experience with Requirements Engineering throughout the project lifecycle
  • Knowledge of developing, modeling, and analyzing complex technical systems
  • Experience with verification and validation
  • Experience with risk management

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in space industry - specifically, experience in spaceflight payload design from concept to implementation
  • Knowledge of NASA safety requirements and regulations
  • Experience with Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach and tools or experience with framework/approach similar to MBSE
  • Experience leading and participating in Lifecycle Reviews (PDR, CDR, etc)
  • Experience using Project Management methodology and/or a PMP certification
  • INCOSE Certification
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with Atlassian products, specifically JIRA and Confluence
