BRIDGE INSPECTOR

This role analyzes various structural aspects and performs in-depth calculations on bridges throughout the Utica area for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). This job has roughly a 60/40 split between field inspections and office work.

THE BRIDGE INSPECTION TEAM LEADER AT CPL

As a member of the transportation team, the Team Leader conducts field inspections to perform structural assessments encompassing steel girder section loss, load rating, and fatigue-prone detail evaluation. The Team Leader will work with the support of a jr. engineer to perform in-depth calculations to provide accurate reporting of bridge conditions and prepare inspection reports documenting inspection findings. The Team Leader must have the ability to multi-task, evaluate complex structures, and lead all aspects of bridge safety inspections. Work from aerial lifts, man lifts, scaffolding, and ladders will be necessary.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Valid New York State P.E. license.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in the inspection of bridges or bridge design.
  • Perform field safety and structural inspection of bridges and/or other transportation related structures.
  • Prepare inspection reports documenting inspection findings.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD, and MicroStation software.
  • Must be physically fit to climb and work in confined spaces or under adverse weather conditions as required.
  • Must be able to work at heights, on ladders, scaffolding and aerial lift or under-bridge inspection equipment.
  • Must have good working habits and excellent time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have a valid driver’s license.
  • You are able to lift 50lbs.

CORE DUTIES

The rate for this position generally ranges between $110k - 140k annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York.
