Summary

The Summer Camp Youth Instructor provides fun and educational instruction for the Front's Summer Camp program to kids of all ages and abilities. Summer Camp Instructors have a passion for teaching, an outgoing and friendly personality, and they know how to engage kids. This seasonal position is open from May to the end of August 2024. Must have excellent communication and motivational skills and the ability to effectively work with children ages 6-13. Approximately 10-25 hrs of coaching per week; shifts are available for both mornings and afternoons.



Primary and Essential Functions          

  • Provides supportive on-site rock climbing coaching for a variety of ages, abilities, and group sizes;
  • Understands and executes principles of program design;
  • Appropriately manages participant experience while mitigating impact on members;
  • Greets participants as they arrive with friendliness and enthusiasm; learns names!
  • Monitors wall for responsible practices while working
  • Effectively runs rock climbing activities, including belaying and equipment management;
  • Addresses any irresponsible behavior observed; loose kids running in fall zones, guests sitting on mats, gear/personal items on mats and not in cubby space, running, or other behavior inappropriate for the climbing gym;
  • Fosters a sense of community and teamwork among students;
  • Assists with maintaining the facility;
  • Other roles and tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Passion for teaching
  • Flexibility in schedule
  • Minimum of 1 year working with and coaching kids of ages 6-13
  • An avid participant in outdoor sports such as climbing
  • Ability to work with children of all ages
  • High energy and positive attitude with a skill set to work well within a team environment
  • Minimum of 1 year experience rock climbing and ability to top rope belay
  • Personal commitment to longevity, health and fitness
  • Ability to work in a high growth/dynamic business
  • Ability to take direction and implement learnings
  • Ability to reach, bend, twist, pull, and stoop (bend head or body forward or downward); grasp, turn, and manipulate objects; lift, or carry objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds; stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time
  • Physical fitness is required in order to participate in classes and show participants proper climbing techniques
  • First Aid/CPR Certified required; able to complete after hire
  • CWI certified; training will be provided upon hiring
  • Able to take and pass SafeSport examination prior to the first day of work (The Front will reimburse)
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested

Job Hazards

This position is exposed to airborne chalk, dust, and cleaning supplies. Other hazards include falling while providing instruction or demonstration and trips and falls caused by obstacles on the ground such as ropes and climbing gear.
