Salary: $55 - $75 Hourly DOE
Protection and Control Technician
Phase To Phase will be hiring within the next couple of weeks, experienced Protection and Control specialists to fill the role of P&C Technician to work throughout the United States.
Job Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Fully responsible and work onsite at substation projects from start to finish of the project
- Effectively interface and own the relationship with customers and their vendors.
- Read and interpret control prints, wiring diagrams, and relaying schematics
- Ensures the performance of all field testing on substation equipment is completed accurately and safely.
- Develop isolation plans and safely perform the isolation of all protection and control equipment
- Communicate with proper teams to schedule necessary support to perform:
- Testing and commissioning of all relays and communications equipment
- Acceptance testing of new circuit breakers, transformers, CTs, PTs, CVTs, disconnects, etc.
- Perform point to point checks
- Perform function tests
- Develop energization plans
- Work with utility’s P&C supervisor to determine and mitigate reduced or inadequate protection situations
- Plan and schedule in advance SCADA checkouts through utility’s P&C oversight or directly with SCADA support
Minimum Qualifications to qualify for consideration, you must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements:
- High school diploma required
- Must have at least 6 years of utility transmission Protection & Control experience at brownfield sites
- Must be confident, a strong troubleshooter, and able to communicate effectively
- Must be willing and able to travel and work at substation sites from six weeks to several months at a time
- Must have experience working on 138 kV and higher
- Must have experience with microprocessor and electromechanical relays
- Must be fully knowledgeable on zones of protection
- Must be able to demonstrate SAFE electrical troubleshooting skills using basic and advanced test equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates degree preferred; BSEE a plus
- 5+ years experience with microprocessor and electromechanical relays (GE and SEL highly desirable)
- Wave trap and line tuner adjusting experience desirable
- Prior experience with RTS or Protection Suite relaying testing software desirable
Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must be able to physically walk throughout a substation yard and control house.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
- Ability to work regularly in the field which may vary from an outdoor environment exposed to any seasonal elements to inside working space which could vary widely in temperature to include occasional sub-freezing and 100+ degree temperatures.
- Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak English
- Travel - Up to 90% (Must be willing to travel most of the time.)
