Hiring for all shifts! Applicants must be able to reliably commute to Endicott, NY.

The Utility Plant Maintenance Technician 4 must be experienced in all phases of steam generation, maintenance of boilers, chilled water systems, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, water treatment, natural gas and fuel oil systems, HVAC systems, and auxiliary equipment. Responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician include repairing utility plant equipment, control circuits, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems for proper operation of equipment. The Maintenance Technician tests, maintains, and repairs utility plant equipment and monitors contractors' work to ensure quality and code compliance.

Maintenance Technician Essential Functions:

Including but not limited to:

  • Monitors, observes, and maintains conditions that affect operation of the plant, including daily inspections and readings of boilers, chillers, pumps, water towers, and air compressors.
  • Works with other utility plant personnel to start up, troubleshoot, or shut down equipment as required for corrective or preventive maintenance such as valve adjustments, filter cleaning, leak repair, gasket replacement, etc. including proper lock out and tag out of plant equipment.
  • Complies with information provided on Material Safety Data Sheets for all products. Handles and stores items properly. Assists with cleaning of plant facilities, equipment, and general housekeeping.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the organization.

Maintenance Technician Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a utility plant mechanic or 10 years performing similar duties in a related position

OR

  • Instrumentation/Controls Associates degree or Electronics Technician Associates degree

OR

  • Military job training in a Military Occupations Specialty (MOS) field related to utility plants

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job[TD2]

Maintenance Technician Core Competencies:

  • General knowledge of maintenance, startup, operation, and shutdown procedures and practices of steam, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment. Must be able to lift or displace up to 100 pounds, work in adverse weather conditions, in confined spaces and heights of up to 100 ft with safety equipment, and be able to respond to plant emergencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules and regulations, and safety precautions established by the industry, OSHA, and Phoenix Investors. Working knowledge of potential hazards and procedures for fire and explosion prevention. Proper usage of PPE.
  • Ability to do intermediate-level mathematical calculations. Ability to follow complex instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Strong knowledge in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, etc.

Maintenance Technician Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.

Experience:

  • Utility Plant Experience: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Mechanical Knowledge: 10 years (Preferred)
