Job Brief:

This individual will be responsible for working alongside and organizing Bird Handling Specialists to ensure that all daily tasks are completed safely and efficiently. This individual will also ensure the welfare of the birds under their care, as well as working with Bird Handling Specialists to ensure the poultry houses are well maintained, neat and clean. This position is also responsible for ensuring the birds have access to food, water and fresh air and comfortable temperatures.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include, but not limited to:

· Assist Manager or Supervisor in training employees and ensuring that the poultry house is operated in compliance with all safety, environmental, animal welfare and food safety requirements.

· Responsible for Welfare of birds

· Responsible for ensuring that bio-security program is strictly adhered to.

· Will be responsible for working with the Managers, Supervisors, and Bird Handling Specialists to ensure that vaccinations, bird movements and any other periodic tasks are completed correctly and on time.

· Responsible for working with the Manager or Supervisor to ensure production of good quality layers by maintaining proper feeding, lighting, water and ventilation programs and ensuring that all mortality is removed from house daily.

· Carefully monitor the house for correct temperature, air flow, water and feed consumption along with monitoring birds for signs of disease or distress. The Production Lead will report any problems immediately to the Manager or Supervisor and will work with them until the problem is satisfactorily resolved. General knowledge of layer house equipment, its function and basic repair is required.

· Assists the Manager and Supervisor in recognizing and taking steps to prevent and resolve all production problems in order to minimize their impact on the operation. Egg belt status, feed chain status and manure belts are monitored daily.

· Responsible for manure removal by running belts 100% daily. Maintenance of cross belt, pit, covers and curtains.

· Assist the Manager and Supervisor with feed inventory. Ensure that feed trucks have necessary assistance unloading.

· Ability to organize staff and work alongside them to complete work safely and efficiently. Assure that all CVE protocols are followed, No cell phones, breaks and lunches are strictly followed are examples.

· Completing required daily record keeping, including alarm checks and repair of sensors and PLC issues.

· Record data such as water meter readings, mortality, feed inventories and temperatures. Ensure that Compliance documents are current and accurate.

· Ensure that all birds have continuous access to feed, water and fresh air.

· Make minor adjustments to systems such as feed and water levels.

· Replace and maintain water filters and Dosatron containers.

· Perform housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, scraping, dusting and organizing materials. Assure that water bottles, gloves, sleeves and masks are disposed of in trash containers, not manure belts.

· Clean droppings and waste from floor, machinery and stairs. All equipment is properly stored. All birds are kept in the nesting area.

· Clean fans, cool cell pads (as needed)

· Assist with the preventative maintenance and repair of house equipment.

· Resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll related matters and complete the attestation each day worked each workweek. Assure that your crew is compliant as well.

· Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs attendance and punctuality policy

· Any other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills:

· The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability necessary to perform this job successfully.

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

· A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.

· 1-2 years related experience.

 

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to meet physical requirements of the job including long periods of standing, bending, and lifting occasionally up to 50lbs.

· Continuously lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 50-pounds; regularly lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 75-pounds.

· Continuously shovel material.

· Frequently climbs ladders; occasionally works at heights of 100 feet.

· Frequently stoop/crouch/bend/climb/push/pull objects to complete the essential functions of this position.

· Vision sufficient to safely perform the essential job tasks.

· Hearing sufficient to identify animal aggression or illness and to identify malfunctioning equipment.

 

Preferred Skills, Competencies and Experience:

· Three (3) years lead role experience preferred.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (Bilingual preferred)

· Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills

· Ability to keep detailed, accurate records

· Highly organized, pro-active, self-motivated and honest

· Excellent time management

· Adhere to the highest standards of ethics, integrity and credibility

· Understanding of plant operational processes and procedures, including routine and emergency start-up and shutdown practices

· Familiarity with industrial equipment operations

· Ability to operate equipment such as forklift, and hand tools.

· Possess good judgment, dependability, adaptability and punctuality.

· Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
