Job Description
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Consults with field operator to collect information on equipment history, problem with the equipment, and/or known maintenance or repairs required.
· Identifies mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.
· Performs tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.
· Examines critical parts and systems using standard checklists.
· Plans repairs and timetables for completion; provides necessary supervisors with time and cost estimates.
· Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
· Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
· Conducts post-repair testing and diagnostics.
· Tests equipment/vehicles to confirm proper operation, that repairs have been made properly, and that problems have been resolved.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent mechanical skills.
· Extensive knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine repair.
· Extensive knowledge of vehicle, truck and heavy equipment repair.
· Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
· Ability to read service and repair manuals.
· Ability to read work orders.
· Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
· Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Master technician certification preferred.
· Five years of related experience preferred.
· State Inspection Certification preferred.
· Knowledge of welding hard surfaces, ARC welding and fabricating.
· In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and maintenance required.
· CDL Class license preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
· Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
· Must have enough vision to inspect repair work.
· Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
· Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day.
· Must be able to ride in a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
· Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
· Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
· Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
· Must have flexibility in scheduling as business requires.
