Job Description:
· This Lead Engineer position is a vital role in the Vehicle Engineering team.
· A primary focus will be solving technical problems utilizing robust root cause techniques in complex mechanical and vehicle systems, as well as verifying and implementing solutions.
· The scope of projects will range from "Hardy Perennials” as well as support urgent problems that were just discovered in both existing and new product.
· Design and engineering of products in cross-functional teams is also a key activity this position is responsible for.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
· Manufacturing Experience (Proficient Working Knowledge... Near Expert Level of Knowledge)
· Mechanism Design knowledge is a must, expertise preferred, and how to integrate it into the design, considering all Tolerances involved.
· Knowledge of materials and benefits of utilizing one type over the other
· Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Attributes:
· Strong understanding of physics of mechanical systems (hydraulics, gear design, statics and dynamics, control systems, strength of materials and material properties).
· Perform Pareto Analysis of manufacturing losses to prioritize problems to be solved to eliminate malfunctions and unacceptable product performance, and rapidly reduce losses.
· Understand and develop measurement repeatability, reproducibility, and discrimination that reflects the range of performance between acceptable and unacceptable.
· Understands "Y to X” thinking (let the effects (Y) lead to the cause (X) vs listing all possible causes). Also proficient at clue generation and variable reduction.
· Understand, develop, and analyze descriptive multi-Vari charts.
· Proficient in failure analysis from failed parts.
· Experience with Full Factorial Experiments and Design of Experiments.
· Determine and implement corrective actions. Improve/Design/Redesign product to eliminate the failure mode.
· Six Sigma Black Belt – Problem Solver / Practitioner
· Shanin Red-X Master – Problem Solver / Practitioner
Working knowledge on a wide array of Engineering Tasks:
· Analysis
· Root Cause
· Troubleshooting
· Problem-Solving
· Quality, Design and Validation tools including: FEA, DFA/M, DOE, D/PFMEA, DVP&R, (8D or similar), GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up.
· Lesson Learned / Best Practices
· Machine Design & Fabrication
Minimum Qualifications:
· A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.
· Minimum of 15 years work experience working on Problem-Solving, ideally in the automotive industry.
· Exceptional Problem-Solving, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills
· Previous assembly plant launch experience preferred.
· Dimensional Management and Understanding of GD&T required.
· Experience with Mechanism, Steel, Aluminum & Plastic/Composites part design and manufacturing.
· Desired training and proficiency: Shainin Red X Master Black Belt or Black Belt/(formerly "Journeyman”), Six Sigma / DMAIC Blackbelt.
