Teacher for the 2024/25 School Year (MS/HS Science)

Salary: $46,104 - $57,528 annually (based on 209 working school days - range based on education/experience)

Location: Missouri School for the Deaf (MSD), 505 E. 5th St., Fulton, MO 65251

The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Teaches subject matter appropriate to educational background and certification.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates the individual educational plan for each student.
  • Plans and outlines class work within prescribed limits; assembles and prepares learning materials for special study.
  • Keeps scholastic and attendance records.
  • Gives individual instruction and encouragement as needed.
  • May operate as part of a teaching team. May assist in teacher training of peers and student teachers/interns. Participates in conferences/meetings with parents.
  • Confers with building Supervisor and/or parents regarding students' needs, progress and/or abilities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Considerable knowledge of modern practices, techniques and methods of teaching, particularly as this applies to the area of education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Ability to use constructive behavior management in a classroom.
  • Ability to assess needs of students and develop program accordingly.
  • Ability to work effectively with students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through writing, reading and/or speech and sign language.
  • Ability to make accurate observations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Must meet the required American Sign Language competency level of Advanced.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • Missouri State Teachers' Certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Deaf Education or Special Education with ASL skills from an accredited college or university is preferred.
