Higginsville Habilitation Center is a state operated program within the Department of Mental Health that supports individuals receiving 24/7 services in a group home setting.

Registered Nurse Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provide professional nursing care to HHC individuals
  2. Observe consumers' condition. Document findings and communicate to nursing staff and others as directed (Guardians, Superintendent, etc.)
  3. Report discrepancies in orders, care, medications, or treatments to the physician.
  4. Accompany individuals on medical appointments
  5. Educate direct care staff to ensure compliance with medication administration, personal care, etc.
  6. Know what to do in an emergency and how to use emergency equipment (O2, suction machine, AED, fire extinguisher)
  7. Administer prescribed medications and treatments as ordered by physician
  8. Ensure narcotic counts are accurate each shift
  9. Work overtime and work on other shifts as directed in order to provide sufficient staff coverage.
  10. Supervise license practical nurses
  11. Receives and records physician's orders according to accepted practices and facility policies.
  12. Call orders to pharmacy (new or refills)
  13. Keep Medication Administration Records (MAR) current
  14. Administer vaccines, IM's and TB tests
  15. Assist with monthly drug renewals
  16. Draw labs and process for pick-up
  17. Make rounds
  18. Assist PCP as needed
  19. Communicate medical needs to direct care staff
  20. Be able to use the two-way radio
  21. Work with Individuals' Team to assess consumers' needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
  22. Attend meetings
  23. Schedule appointments
  24. Obtain consents as needed
  25. Maintain Individuals' chart
  26. Keep Immunizations, seizure records, etc current
  27. Assure all orders are signed by the Primary Care Physician (PCP)
  28. Complete paperwork as assigned
  29. Maintain med rooms
  30. Order supplies and restock as needed
  31. Assure cleanliness of room
  32. Ensure drugs are stored appropriately
  33. Maintain training
  34. Maintain current in CPR
  35. Complete new employee orientation
  36. Complete annual training or other training as assigned
  37. Adhere to ICF/DD regulations, facility policies, procedures, DOR's, Merit System Rules and Regulations.
  38. Physical requirements
  39. Can lift as least 50 pounds.
  40. Able to perform physical requirements including, but not limited to: 1) frequent standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crouching; 2) regular walking, talking, hearing, reaching with hands and arms (including above head); and 3) occasional climbing of stairs or balancing.

Requirements:

  • Current Missouri License as a Registered Nurse
  • Must possess a valid Missouri drivers' license in order to drive state transportation to transport individuals to a variety of locations for appointments, employment, leisure or vacations
  • Possess adequate vision to read written material
  • Possess adequate hearing
