JOB SUMMARY:

Welds metal components together with brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products for commercial indoor air handling equipment by performing the following duties.

Union Position: $21/HR

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
  • Reads and interprets prints, work instructions, and drawings to fabricate metal parts.
  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Operates spot welder to assemble parts.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Repairs purchased materials as needed utilizing welding, brazing, spot welding and similar skills.
  • Completes quality checks, documents results, and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Responsible for reporting work related injuries and near misses to supervision.
  • Responsible for wearing all required PPE and following applicable safety/environmental rules.
  • Responsible for correcting or reporting unsafe conditions observed within the plant.


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proven experience as welder
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.)
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
  • Deftness and attention to detail
  • Proficient in English
  • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required
  • Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus

Ability to work in a noisy, dusty, industrial/manufacturing environment, and exposed to non-toxic fumes, chemicals, grease, and oils. Ability to work with machinery and moving parts. Ability to operate crane, truck, motor vehicles. Ability to work with moving vehicles, ladders, and scaffolding. Ability to work at heights, and in confined spaces. Ability to properly lift/carry/push/pull/manipulate/transport up to 30 lbs. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., and frequently lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment. Ability to work in repetitive motions and pressure involving fingers, hands, and wrists. The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over hard concrete surface. Exposure to recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, stretching, or similar activities. Ability to reach at high levels. Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in the English Language

Must have the physical strength and ability to frequently work more than 40 hours weekly.
