SUMMARY

Sells building materials and/or maintenance supplies to builders, businesses and industrial establishments by performing the following duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Travels throughout assigned area to call on regular and prospective customers at jobsites, sales offices, or other locations to solicit orders for existing accounts and/or generate new accounts for assigned McCoy store location(s)
  • Compiles lists of sales leads for prospective customers based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, websites, word of mouth, and other sources
  • Ensures quality customer service through personal interaction with contractor and retail customers. Personally handles large volume customer accounts as required and assigned
  • Builds and maintains customer relationships. Resolves customer complaints as necessary
  • Assists customers with product questions and purchases. Provides information to customers and co-workers about product usage, availability and application. Uses in-depth knowledge of product application to assist customers in selecting product for their business. Coordinates product training or demonstrations for customers as needed
  • Estimates product quantities for prospective jobs based on blueprint requirements, or uses customer-provided quantities, to develop competitive pricing bids to solicit sales. Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained
  • Establishes, reviews, and reports market activity, market penetration, pricing, margins, and selling approaches to management. Makes product recommendations for inclusion in product line
  • Manages and monitors credit for all new and current customers including set-up of accounts, changes to accounts and involvement in collection. Communicates with Credit Department and Store Manager regarding any credit issues that need to be resolved
  • Prepares reports of business transactions, including weekly sales call log, mileage, and expenses
  • Assists with developing monthly, quarterly and annual plans in conjunction with Store, Regional, or Commercial Sales Manager to meet store goals for volume and profitability
  • Monitors and tracks product levels of inventory of product in the store to ensure customer's needs are met. Notifies Store Inventory Coordinator or management when new orders are needed. Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts
  • Works with and through corporate, regional and store management and employees to facilitate efficient delivery of product and service to commercial customers. Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries, product quality or service
  • Establishes and maintains a professional work appearance including company dress code and using company business cards
  • Travels to and attends trade shows
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures while carrying out the responsibilities of the position
  • Attends store meetings and training sessions as required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, trade journals, technical procedures, or contractual documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and internal communications. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs and charts. Must be able to perform and comprehend basic business and financial calculations
  • Ability to utilize company point-of-sale system (MAC21), Microsoft Word & Excel, and other 3rd party software applications at an intermediate level
  • Knowledge and understanding of reading and interpreting blueprints and structural designs, including calculating necessary information for bid and quote submittals to customers
WORK AVAILABILITY
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by management
  • Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week or such other hours per day or hours per week as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs
  • Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position requires occasional travel with overnight stays
  • Must meet driver's license and driver eligibility requirements of the Company
  • Must have current auto liability insurance
  • Must be able to use company or personal vehicle to visit customers, job sites and purchasing offices of prospective and assigned accounts
