Requirements:
Education: Completion of a master's or higher degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited institution.
Clinical Experience: Successful completion of a supervised clinical fellowship year following the graduate degree program.
State Licensure: Obtainment of a license from the Georgia Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board (SLPAB). This involves meeting specific coursework, clinical practicum, and examination requirements.
Certification: While not mandatory, many SLPs pursue the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) offered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Having CCC-SLP can be beneficial for career advancement.
Background Check: Clearances such as a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting may be required by the school district or employer.
