Job Title: Elementary School Paraprofessional - Special Education

Contract Duration: ASAP - 5/24/2024

Hours per Week: 37.5

Location: Elementary School in Virginia (VA)

Caseload/Job Details: Supporting students in an intensive support classroom setting. Working with students of intellectual disabilities and moderate to severe autism in the 1st to 5th grade age group.

Position Overview: This position entails working closely with a 1st to 5th grade male student diagnosed with autism. The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support, focusing on the student's educational, behavioral, and social development.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with elementary-aged children with intellectual disabilities and moderate to severe autism is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively in a 1:1 setting, providing tailored support based on the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Demonstrated understanding of autism spectrum disorders and strategies for supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain necessary state licenses for paraprofessionals in Virginia.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing educational activities and strategies outlined in the student's IEP.
  • Assisting the student with academic tasks, ensuring understanding and engagement.
  • Supporting the student in developing social skills and fostering positive peer interactions.
  • Providing behavior intervention and support as needed, following school protocols.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers and special education staff to create a cohesive learning environment.
  • Documenting student progress and communicating effectively with parents/guardians.
