Job Summary and Qualifications

Under general supervision the Trauma Nurse Clinician (TNC) provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Kendall Regional Medical Center and Trauma Services. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the health care team, the Trauma Nurse Clinican assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans. The TNC will assume the role of Trauma 1 (T-1) nurse, which will be primary bedside trauma nurse and/or will alternate to the Trauma 2 (T-2) nurse, which is primarily responsible for Trauma documentation and assist T-1 as needed with bedside care. This position will not assume primary care of any patient in the emergency department other than those patients identified as a trauma consult, trauma transfer, or a trauma alert. When there are no identified trauma patients, this position will assist the emergency department or trauma department as directed by the Trauma Director. The TNC will participate in Performance Improvement (PI) and concurrently review the assigned patient’s medical record for defined events/complications. The TNC will identify needs and facilitate trauma nursing education in situ in the ED, PCU, 4 West, Peds, PICU and TICU.

Responsibilities include, although are not limited to: 

  1.  Response to trauma bays 
  2.  Responsible for trauma bay readiness 
  3.  Coordinates and triages incoming trauma patients 
  4.  Reviews/evaluates all activations 
  5.  Evaluates trauma/burn consultations 
  6.  Manages care with primary trauma/burn surgeon 
  7.  Responsible for documentation compliance 
  8.  Responds to in-house trauma patients critical needs 
  9.  Facilitates psychosocial support 
  10.  Mentors ED/ICU nurses 
  11.  Assist in training and in-servicing needs 
  12.  Attends daily check out rounds and multi disciplinary rounds 
  13.  Identify and report trauma audit filters 
  14.  Participate in research and scholarly activities 
  15.  Functions as clinical liaison for pre-hospital partners 
  16.  Facilitates trauma bay time outs and debriefings 
  17.  Participate in duties assigned by the director of trauma services 
What qualifications you will need:
  • Licensure: Current valid Florida RN license 
  • Training/Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC,TNCC, ATCN within 1 year 
  • TCRN within 2 years of hire 
  • ATCN/TNCC Instructor within 2 years of hire 
  • Experience: Two (2) years ED or ICU nursing experience required. Trauma Experience Prefered. 
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Other Attributes: Effective communication skills; both orally and written. 
  • Computer skills needed. 
  • Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. 
  • Strong problem solving skills.
