Job Description

The Furnace Attendant controls the feeding and firing of two furnaces, (including electric boost) maintaining proper level and temperatures, checks for proper operations of the automatic batch.,

The Furnace Attendant will:

  • Using remote controls, moves out empty batch hoppers and positions filled hoppers at automatic feeders to charge furnaces, checking for proper operations of monorail system and automatic batch mixing system.
  • Observes panel board during batch mixing cycles; notifies supervision of any malfunction.
  • Checks to assure air and gas reversal, completing this manually if not working automatically, checks fires visually after each reversal and changes intert air at port of control fire.
  • Operates variable controls requiring precise and frequent adjustment.
  • Maintains proper temperature and batch level for change of pull by making furnace adjustments.
  • Checks batch feeder level, cooling air, cooling water and batch ribbon for proper operations.
  • Checks furnace to determine faulty operation conditions such as hot spots, dirty burners, clogged checkers and furnace leaks.  Takes measure to temporarily correct these conditions; notifies supervisor of conditions.

The Furnace Attendant should have:

  • Experience reading and recording furnace readings, maintains furnace log, and changes recording charts
  • The ability to keep log of Batch and Furnace operations, noting required statistics in log book and log sheets
  • The ability to check recording forms on instruments
  • Experience helping maintenance clean and change burners on furnaces
  • Skills to perform housekeeping duties on charging floor.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, glass experience preferred

Must be able to work an 8 hour rotating shift, which includes weekends and holidays
