Job Title: Carry-Out Specialist

Job Summary

The Carry-out Specialist implements our take-out and curbside pick-up operation, which accounts for up to 50% of our business. Carryout Specialists receive orders curbside, at the counter, online or by telephone and prepare the orders to be picked up by our guests. Like the hosts, the Carryout Specialist may be the first (and in some cases) the only person our guests see when they visit our restaurant. They therefore must have an intimate knowledge of our menu offerings, speak clearly, professionally, and in a friendly manner and maintain a positive, upbeat attitude at all times.

Activities & Responsibilities

  1. Execute all directives from management throughout shift.
  2. Provide genuine hospitality to our guests from the beginning of their experience to the end.
  3. Adhere to all steps of service for curbside and carryout service.
  4. Adhere to all safety and sanitation procedures.
  5. Come to work with all necessary uniform requirements met.
  6. Complete necessary training at time of hire and continuous training throughout employment.
  7. Maintain an excellent knowledge of our entire food and beverage offerings.
  8. Be able to describe menu offerings in detail to guests and make suggestions based on guests’ preferences
  1. Maintain knowledge of all the ingredient details of every dish on the menu
  1. Maintain knowledge of daily specials and other promotional offerings.
  2. “Upsell” items to guests to enhance experience.
  3. Answer questions about our food, beverages, safety and sanitation policies, pick up procedures and other restaurant functions and services.
  1. Direct guests who are arriving curbside to place an order or pick up an order previously placed by telephone or online. Greet customers upon arrival in the parking lot or carryout station. Maintain a welcoming, upbeat and professional demeanor at all times.
  2. Answer telephones promptly and courteously.
  1. Adhere to reservation policy when taking reservations.
  2. Communicate all reservations with host/hostess.
  3. Be familiar with The Dirty Buffalo hiring process and be able to handle job inquiries appropriately and consistently.
  1. Take guest orders curbside, at the counter or by telephone.
  2. Verify all orders taken by repeating them back to the guest. Maintain an utmost attention to detail when taking orders.
  1. Maintain knowledge of point of sale system.
  2. Enter orders promptly and correctly in POS system to transmit guest orders to kitchen.
  1. Pack food items in to go bags, provide plastic-ware and napkins.
  1. Deliver food and beverages from kitchen to guests in a timely matter.
  1. Receive payments and present change to guests.
  2. Appeal to impatient or irritated customers, especially during rush hours.
  3. Communicate clearly with the kitchen and front of house staff. Advise KM if paper products are running low to ensure prompt ordering.
  1. Answer questions about our food, beverages and other restaurant functions and services.
  1. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Report any guest issues or complaints to manager on duty
  2. Manage the register, including all credit card and cash operations.
  3. Ensure a balance of the register at the end of the shift or working period. Count cash drawer upon opening and count and reconcile at end of evening, to be verified by manager
  1. Complete all restaurant set up and side work and be prepared to have manager verify its completion.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized work station at all times.
  1. Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of our guests.
  • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 10 hours).
  • Be able to handle high amounts of physical and mental stress for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, be professional, efficient, detail-oriented, and courteous.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Obtain any necessary certifications required by local or state law, such as obtaining a Food Handler’s Certificate
