The Outdoor Guide is a part of the R&R Team and leads activities such as kayaking, standup paddle boarding, hiking, and walking.

This role is responsible for delivering safe, instructional, and mindful outdoor activities at Kripalu. The Outdoor Guide upholds a culture of inclusivity, mutual support, growth and learning while ensuring a superior guest experience. 

The ideal candidate should be personable, considerate, and engaging in a culturally diverse population. We are looking for someone who loves nature, outdoor adventure and thrives in the wilderness. The candidate must have problem-solving skills and be able to manage emergencies or stressful situations at any given time. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are essential.

Please note: Must be able to swim in the event of a capsized boat.

SCHEDULE

2-10 hours per week. This is a seasonal position that tends to start in March of each year.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads groups and individuals with varying degrees of ability.
  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of group participants.
  • Helps to create a mindful outdoor experience for guests.
  • Respects and maintains natural resources
  • Provides a superior level of customer service to all Kripalu guests and creating positive relations
  • Instructs and demonstrates related skills and techniques
  • Manages risk and responds to emergencies when necessary
  • Responsible for the inventory and general maintenance of outdoor equipment: load, unload, manage and care for equipment and gear.
  • Helps to facilitate Kripalu’ s boat loan program at the lakefront.
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in leading outdoor activities and/or fitness pursuits.
  • Must be a strong swimmer.
  • Ability to hike several hours per day on uneven terrain for a minimum of four miles per day in all weather conditions. Must be able to complete this at a pace that ensures they are able to complete the activity within the allotted time (generally 3 miles in 90 minutes).
  • Must also be able to lift and carry 35 pounds to assist with gear/boat transport.
  • Must be in a physical/mental state to respond quickly to changing circumstances with the aim or guest safety and satisfaction.
  • Currently or willing to become CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certified.
