QUALIFICATIONS: Meet day care licensing requirements for an Infant/Toddler Caregiver.

  • Requires CDA and High School Diploma/Equivalent or Bachelor's degree in early childhood, childhood development, or related fields, 12 credits approved early childhood courses; 30 hours approved infant/toddler training and 12 months full time experience working with children under 36 months in a licensed group care setting. or
  • Requires High School Diploma/Equivalent, 30 hours approved infant/toddler training and 24 months full time experience working with children under 36 months in a licensed group care setting.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Infant/Toddler Caregiver's role is similar to that of a Infant/Toddler Lead Caregiver, therefore the responsibilities are similar. The Infant/Toddler Caregiver is directly responsible to the Lead Caregiver and is expected to provide support:


ASSIST CHILDREN:

  • Work with individuals or small groups of children as directed by the Lead Caregiver
  • Changing diapers, potty training, and bottle feeding are common tasks
  • Help with planning, prep, and implementation of learning tasks
  • Help with record keeping
  • Be sensitive and responsive to children’s needs
  • Use positive modeling and behavior management

ASSIST PARENTS:

  • Be a positive role model
  • Communicate clearly, regularly, and appropriately
  • Respect confidentiality
  • Be sensitive to needs
  • Help encourage school, class, child involvement

COMMIT TO THE PROGRAM:

  • Come to work on time and on a regular basis
  • Contribute to programs in terms of communication, ideas, talent or interests
  • Continue to demonstrate interest in the job
  • Help to maintain an attractive, clean, and safe environment
  • Help to take care of equipment and materials
  • Assist in fundraising activities
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Help supervise aides
  • Maintain NAEYC Accreditation Standards

OTHER EXPECTATIONS:

  • Conduct self in a professional manner when dealing with children, other staff, or parents, or during school activities on or off campus
  • Follow school policies and procedures
  • Increase knowledge of early education and upgrading skills by attending workshops, classes or training sessions
  • Complete other duties as assigned
