Job Description

Are you passionate about water safety and dedicated to making a positive impact on your community? The YMCA is looking for a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our swim programs.

As a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor, your primary responsibility is to conduct YMCA swim programs in compliance with YMCA risk management and aquatics policies. Utilizing proper techniques from Lifeguard certification courses, you will maintain constant vigilance, promptly respond to incidents, and work collaboratively with fellow staff to uphold a safe environment.

Ensuring the proper maintenance and use of equipment, supplies, and materials is key to creating a safe and cost-effective aquatics space. Your commitment to adhering to the Aquatics Employee Handbook, promptly answering questions from supervisors, guards, and members, and performing and recording chlorine, pH, and temperature tests will contribute to the overall safety and well-being of our aquatics programs.

In the event of any deviations in chlorine or pH readings, you'll notify maintenance and/or the Aquatics Director promptly, as outlined in the Aquatics Employee Handbook. Following established procedures for pool contamination incidents is crucial, demonstrating your commitment to maintaining a clean and safe swimming environment.

Developing positive relationships with swim lesson participants, providing excellent member service, and being well-informed about various aquatics activities/programs will be part of your daily interactions. Keeping open lines of communication with co-workers and the Aquatics Director ensures a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Accurate completion and distribution of incident/accident reports, as well as maintaining attendance and progress rosters for swim lessons, contribute to the overall professionalism of our aquatics programs. Your role is not just about ensuring safety but also about connecting with children and their parents, creating a positive environment that enhances social and physical development.

As a member of our Aquatics Staff, you will contribute to the YMCA movement by maintaining positive relationships with members, co-workers, and supervisors, ensuring excellence in both aquatics safety and instruction. If you are enthusiastic, responsible, and committed to providing a safe and enjoyable aquatics experience, we invite you to apply and join us in making a difference in our community.
