JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Visits middle schools, high schools, and colleges, chapter house, tribal fairs, flea markets, speaks to groups and individual students, and meets with school counselors to promote outreach activities; coordinates community workshops and retreats; arranges visit from prospective students and parents.
  • Coordinates with the Marketing Technician to develop program and marketing materials for the recruitment of students.
  • Conducts radio and TV announcements to promote NTU.
  • Serves as a representative for the university at various functions and recruitment events.
  • Provides career and academic planning, and advising to potential students; assists students with testing strategies, writing skills, and completion of applications by doing seminars and workshops; coordinates applications for financial assistance.
  • Arranges and provide campus tours for prospective students and parents.
  • Serves as a liaison to develop partnerships between NTU and local school systems.
  • Creates and distributes resource and marketing materials for student recruitment.
  • Analyzes trends in recruitment and marketing for higher education enrollment within the area (New Mexico, Arizona, and Tribal colleges/Universities) and keep statistical information.
  • Prepares reports and proposals, and responds to inquiries from schools, students and families.
  • Serves as an operational resource to other staff, faculty, and/or students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate Degree in Marketing, Student Services, Public Relations, Communications, or related field.
  • One-year experience in recruitment, marketing, public relations, or related field.
  • Bi-Lingual English/Navajo
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of student recruitment practices.
  • Knowledge of admission standards.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Database management skills.
  • Skill in operating business computers, phone systems, and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirement
  • Ability to create written materials.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written formats.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a structured working environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods, walk and stand.
  • Use of hands for dexterity of motions, repetitive movement of both hands.
  • Have normal auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally performed in office and interior settings with normal noise levels.
  • Travel is required.
  • Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
  • Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required
