Job Description

Objective: The Welding Technician 1 gains experience and knowledge to become a skilled Welding Technician and provides customers with product in an exemplary manner according to the company quality policies.

Qualified candidates will possess the following Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Required to enroll in the apprenticeship program within 6 months of starting work, to be completed in a 4 year time frame. Upon completion (class work and 8,000 On the Job Learning Hours), apply for the Journeyman's card.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently modify welding programs for Fanuc systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot automated welding applications
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance (PM) on weld fixtures, weld cells, and auxiliary equipment
  • Computer Literacy
  • An excellent work record, including attendance.

Outstanding Candidates will possess the following Desired Requirements:

  • Previous welding experience in laser, robotic, automatic and semi-automatic welding systems
  • Completion of courses towards Welding Certification or Associates Degree in Welding Technology

Essential Functions:

Standard Work/Welding Programing:

  • Maintain and follow welding parameters on the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) with the assistance of the Welding Engineer.
  • Interpret weld cross sections and etching samples and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Verify error proofing according to instructions.
  • Validate process parameters and enter system deviations when applicable.
  • Complete equipment changeovers according to the changeover instructions for weld fixtures, size tools, leak test tools, poke yokes, and all auxiliary equipment.
  • Cross-train on other equipment/departments and processes

Preventative Maintenance (PM):

  • Assist the Welding Engineer in data collection for continuous improvement activities.
  • Support Tool Room on preventative maintenance (PM) per the instructions on weld fixture.
  • Perform PM's on weld cells and auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide suggestions to continuously improve the PM schedules.
  • Utilize EAM to document time spent on CM's and PM's.

Troubleshooting/Quality:

  • Support "End of Runs", by working with both Tool Room and Machine Operators to identify and address any issues during each run.
  • Troubleshoot automated welding applications.
  • Maintain weld equipment and processes to OSHA, MIOSHA, and Pridgeon & Clay standards.

Lean Principles/5S/Safety:

  • Participate in lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events, and identity and eliminate all types of waste.
  • Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area and 5S zone.

Organization/Communication/Professionalism:

  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives.
  • Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management.
  • Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.
  • Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including ISO, IATF 16949, and safety regulations.
  • Accept instructions and duties in a positive manner.
