The Bus Aide assists the transportation department, providing care to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while they travel between home, programs and community locations.

Position: Part-time, 5-6 hours daily, Monday - Friday, Non-Exempt. Typical hours are between 7:00am – 9:30am and 2:30pm – 5pm but may vary depending on assigned bus route, with occasional needs between 9:30am – 2:30pm. Locations available throughout Gloucester County.

  • Pay Rate: $15 per hour
  • $500 Signing Bonus
  • $250 Referral Bonus

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with boarding/deboarding individuals being transported
  • Properly secure wheelchair lock downs and seatbelts
  • Monitor individuals being transported during route; provide assistance as needed
  • Aid and ensure the safety of the individuals served by The Arc Gloucester
  • Assist with all aspects of transporting individuals served between the pickup and the drop off location
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle
  • Maintain a pleasant, clean and safe program environment
  • Communicate need for repairs
  • Maintain and obtain all required records and documents
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Comply with the DDD Program Manual, The Arc Gloucester Policies and Procedures Manual and applicable state, local and federal regulations, including any COVID-19 vaccination mandates & policies
  • Cooperate and participate in reviews, investigations and inspections
  • Complete and maintain required training
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and must be 18 years of age or older
  • Knowledge or experience with supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Must have a current, non-probationary driver’s license with 5 points or less, and deemed acceptable to drive by The Arc Gloucester’s liability insurance company
  • Proficient in math, reading comprehension and verbal and written communication skills
  • Successfully pass initial and ongoing State/Federal Criminal Background checks, including but not limited to Fingerprinting, CARI checks, Central Registry checks, MVR and drug screens

Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential functions of this position, the following are required, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to sit, drive, stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate a computers, phone and other relevant technology
  • Talk, hear and communicate in person, over the phone and using other technologies
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Physical duties, including but not limited to carrying, driving, general lifting (at least 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs.), assisting with transferring and lifting of individuals, pushing and pulling (resistance of at least 25 lbs.), bending, twisting, squatting, cleaning, and climbing stairs
