Our Client with the State of Nevada is searching for an Environmental Scientist.

This candidate will perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to flora and fauna for the Department. The selected applicant will receive training in the performance of the duties described under close supervision of a higher-level Environmental Scientist. This temporary position will be assisting permanent employees with various tasks including, but not limited to, desk audit and field surveys for biological resources, research using technical, scientific, and historical data, inspections to ensure compliance with federal, State and local regulations, use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated applications to collect data and create maps, wildlife camera studies, review of permit applications for regulatory compliance, draft internal memos, detailed notes and technical reports for project files, and assist with noxious weed removal.

  • This position is a combination of office and field work.
  • Travel up to 80% and hiking in isolated and adverse conditions is required.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Education:

The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences; or graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning, or and equivalent combination or education and experience as described above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The applicant must have a general knowledge of the physical and biological aspects of the environment including zoology, biology, hydrology, bioclimatology, ecology, geology, physics, chemistry, and environmental terminology. The application must have the ability to read and comprehend technical and legal documents including scientific papers, regulations, statues, engineering plans and specifications, legal agreements, federal and State technical guidance manuals and policies, prepare and present written reports, apply mathematical concepts such as statistics. The applicant must have a general knowledge of computer operations and corresponding software.
