Machinist Apprentice

Mu-Del Electronics is looking for a Machinist Apprentice to operate a variety of machines to perform assigned tasks within its metalwork machine shop. The Machinist Apprentice will operate multiple CNC mills, check quality of finished parts, review technical drawings, revisions and note codes, use tools and calibration equipment such as calipers, wrenches, and air guns or any other equipment necessary to perform job functions. They will be technically proficient in the machining trade. They will be self-motivated and proactive in addressing needs and issues. Understand upcoming work and requirements for the work, communicate needs before they impede productions. Maintain dimensional logs for all the work and jobs that go across their machines.
 

Essential Functions/Duties:

• Machine parts to specifications using equipment such as power saws, mill, lathe, drills, and grinders
• Set up, adjust, and operate all typical machining tools including CNC equipment
• Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
• Layout, measure, and prepare stock for part manufacture
• Interpret engineering drawings and specification to ensure proper fabrication of product
• Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to maintain proper working operation
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specification, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauge, depth gauge, etc.
• Train and conform to company procedures, including maintaining and drafting machine shop operational procedures and practices
• Maintain inventory of shop supplies and materials
• Clean and deburr all finished parts
• Identify inserts, cutters, and general tooling for specific operations
• Perform daily cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery
• Job may change over time in accordance with business needs
   

Key Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalency
• Work experience with shop math proficiency and strong mechanical aptitude is appreciated; basic math skills required
• Green Card holders or US Citizens only

• Self-starter with good customer service skills and a pleasant demeanor, with the ability to maintain a good working relationship with staff
• Ability to maintain a high level of attention to accuracy and details with the ability to use discretion and good judgment
• Safely operate various types of machinery used in the trade
• A candidate needs to possess openness to learning new skills and collaborating with other team members to create solutions
• Multitasker (able to keep several processes running at once)
• Strong communication skills
• Ability & drive to learn new skills & manufacturing techniques at an accelerated pace
   

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, and smell. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Must be able to pass background screening; compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
